Control Panel Anatomy
(See the image of an Administration Control Panel below)
- Main Menu:
- Site: Settings regarding the administration of the web site. It is suggested not to change the settings unless instructed to do so in Tutorials or by uCell Joomla! experts.
- Menu: For managing all the Menus of the web site. It is suggested not to change the settings except instructed to do so in Tutorials or by uCell Joomla! experts.
- Content: All the Articles are managed under this division. This is usually the most used section.
- Components: To control most of the add-on functions to the core system. This will be the second most used section.
- Extensions: Settings of some other functions of the system. This menu will only be used for a few updates. It is suggested not to change the settings that are not mentioned in the Tutorials. Attention: please DO NOT change any setting under this section.
- Tools: Some house-keeping functions for your web site. Includes Read and Write message, Mass Mail, Global Check-in and Clean Cache. Global Check-in is used to unlock the locked Articles. We will learn about this later.
- Secondary Menu:
- Preview is used to preview the changes you made to the web site with a pop-up window.
- The Envelope image represents how many system messages are received and takes you to the Message Inbox. When you are there, click the New icon if you want to send a private message to a registered user of your web site.
- The image with two people shows how many people are currently visiting the web site.
- Quick Link Buttons: links to the most used functions when managing a web site or web portal
- Add New Article: click here to quickly add a new Article. We will discuss how to manage content items later.
- Article Manager: switches the page to the Article Manager page. This topic will be further discussed later.
- Static Content Manager: brings you to Static Content Manager.
- Frontpage Manager: a special page for managing the content items on the Front page or Home page. Please note that when you click this button, you usually discover that it is empty. This is because we usually use Home or About Us under Mennus > Main Menu to replace this Front page. In our opinion, it is more efficient for a web site administrator to work this way.
- Section Manger: displays the Section Manager page.
- Category Manager: displays the Category Manager page.
- Media Manager: used to manage medias and their folders such as image, video, and audio files.
- Menu Manager: for managing menus of the web site.
- Language: used to manage the language patches installed to this web site.
- User Manager: for managing the users of the web site. Please note that if you have Community Builder or other social networking add-ons installed to your web site, the users of your web site will have to be managed through its own control panel. You can usually find it under the Components menu.
- Global Configuration: this button is hidden unless you are a Super Administrator of the web site. It is also not suggested to change its settings.
- Web Site Stats: Displays the statistics of the web site. They are also quick links to the functions they represent.
